6 Morning Habits That Will Change Your Life

6 morning habits that will change your life
Your morning routine sets the tone for the entire day.

What is the first thing you do in the morning?

It’s hard to deny that the things you do in the morning truly set you up for the day. If you workout in the morning you know exactly what I’m talking about. If you are struggling with your routine, trying to lose weight or feel your motivation tanking then keep reading! I’m going to give you 6 morning habits that will change your life, I promise!

Let’s Talk Mindset

I truly believe that to be strong in every area of your life you need to gain strength within your mind first. When you start changing the way you think, you change the way you see the world, the way you see yourself, and you give yourself permission to become an unstoppable force.

What do I mean by this?

The way we view ourselves and the way we talk to ourselves comes out in how we show up in the world.  It shows in how we choose to parent, how we show up for our marriage, how we show up for our coworkers, and our careers, and it shows up in the foods we choose to eat and whether or not we choose to workout.

It’s Time For Change

When our thoughts and actions don’t serve us, it’s time for a change. Thoughts that don’t serve who we are or who we want to become are a signal it’s time for a change. If our thoughts are destructive to our daily lives then we cannot grow or change. Too many of us are waiting for the perfect moment to arise before attempting to make changes. Seeking change requires you to commit to that change, be uncomfortable 90% of the time, and do things you have never done before.

Create Change

To change you mindset and take control of your bad habits you need to do things you haven’t done before. These 6 tools I am about to lay out for you require you to get up before you want to. They require time, patience, and consistency. Even if you just pick one of these tools you will se a big difference in your life, but if you want drastic change do all 6! Let’s Dive in.

6 Morning Habits That Will Change Your Life

1. Silence: Quiet Your Mind

  • Practice silence for greater clarity.
  • Stay relaxed but attentive in your silence.

This one is not easy for me, it takes intention and practice, lots of practice. Aim for 30 seconds, if you start thinking of your to-do list in that 30 seconds, start over! As a rule of thumb stick with the goal of just 30 seconds before adding another 15 and then another 15. Master this time of silence, if you do that then you will soon be meditating for 3-5 minutes.

This one tool has incredible power behind it, but that’s because it’s not easy. There is always so much going on and we are hard-wired to be productive, create to-do lists, and be busy. I firmly believe that having the ability to quiet your mind is an amazing tool that can be used to calm fear or anxieties.

2. Affirmations

  • I am….
  • Affirm what you are committed to
  • Why is that meaningful to you?
  • Craft your affirmations as commitments

To give you a headstart on some affirmations I’ve put some of my favorites together, you can download them here.

    For example:

    • I am the architect of my life; I build its foundation and choose its contents.
    • Today, I am brimming with energy and overflowing with joy.
    • My actions create constant prosperity.
    • Today is the future I created yesterday.

Although I recommend doing these 6 tools in the morning, this particular tool could very well be done throughout the day.

    3. Use Visualization: See Yourself Succeeding

Consequently, this goes back to how you think about yourself.  Do you see yourself accomplishing your goals?  If you don’t believe in yourself this one is going to be hard for you. I want you to think really hard about want you want to accomplish. The key is to not give yourself limitations, think big and when you feel fear – face it!

What makes me sad is that too many of us have limiting beliefs about what we can accomplish. Generally, this happens because we make excuses, wait for the perfect time, or it’s just too damn scary. I dare you to think so big you want to throw up, yup vomit like there’s no tomorrow. For example, when I made the decision to start a podcast and include interviews, that was the exact feeling that came over me.

    4. Exercise

Exercising in the morning has numerous benefits.

The absolute best time to work out is always going to be whenever works for you. However, starting your day with a good sweat does have some serious advantages.

As a result of working out in the morning, you are more likely to consume fewer calories throughout the day. In a study, published in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exerciseresearchers analyzed the brain activity of women as they looked at pictures of food and flowers, which served as the control. Women who’d exercised for 45 minutes in the morning were less fired up about the tasty images than those who skipped the workout. What’s more, the morning exercisers didn’t consume more food than the other group over the course of the day.

When you exercise in the morning you are also more likely to be more active all day long. If you are more active, you are therefore more likely to burn extra calories.

Lastly, working out in the morning decreases your blood pressure. A lower blood pressure means you are better able to handle stress. When you get stressed your body releases a hormone called cortisol. If you are not familiar with the effects of cortisol, let me tell ya it’s not good.

    What is Cortisol?

Cortisol, the primary stress hormone, increases sugars (glucose) in the bloodstream, enhances your brain’s use of glucose and increases the availability of substances that repair tissues. Cortisol also curbs functions that would be nonessential or detrimental in a fight-or-flight situation.  It alters immune system responses and suppresses the digestive system, the reproductive system and growth processes. This complex natural alarm system also communicates with the brain regions that control mood, motivation and fear. If those benefits aren’t enough for you, here are a few more.

    • You’ll sleep better at night.
    • You can protect yourself from diabetes.
    • You’ll build muscle more efficiently.
    • And of course, you’ll get all the other added health benefits of exercising!

    5. Reading

My recommendation would be to read something that speaks to you. This could be a daily devotional, The Bible, or any other book that moves you in a positive way. It’s important that you have time to digest what you read and don’t feel rushed. If you are in a hurry or looking to start your to-do list then this tool will have no effect. Just like quieting your mind can be power, so can this one. Just 3-5 minutes of reading can change the way you see the day and will put your mind where you need it.

    6. Journal

I’m a big believer in appreciating the journey wherever you are at in the moment. Appreciate your starting point, where you are before kids, after kids, and all those in between moments we tend to look over.

For this tool, you should journal what speaks to you the most. My recommendation is to write down your goals every day! Let me say that again, write your goals down every day. Seriously, the mind is such a powerful thing and when you complete the act of writing your goals down day in and day out you are signaling your brain. Your brain will take hold of that goal and find a way to make it happen.

    write your goals down everyday
Unleash the power of your mind by writing your goals down everyday!

    In Conclusion

There you have it! The 6 Morning Habits That Will Change Your Life. Tackling all six of these might be overwhelming, I get it. Try to implement just one and take a week or two to master it. After you feel good with one to add another one, do this until you are eventually doing all 6.
